A wonderful evening of entertainment with Australia’s most famous operatic bass/baritone, Teddy Tahu Rhodes and noted conductor and communicator, Guy Noble.
Teddy Tahu Rhodes is a New Zealand-born bass-baritone, and one of Australia’s leading operatic singers, performing frequently with all the major opera companies, taking roles such as Mephistopheles in Faust (State Opera of South Australia and West Australia Opera), Sweeny Todd, William Tell, Titural (Parsifal, Victorian Opera) and Enrico VIII (Anna Bolena, Opera Australia). He has performed with the most renowned opera companies across the world, including San Francisco, Austin, Washington, Houston, the Metropolitan Opera, the Hamburg Staatsoper, the Bayerische Staatsoper – Munich, the Theatre du Châtelet – Paris, the Welsh National Opera and the Scottish Opera. The Maori name, Tahu, means ‘to set on fire’ – an appropriate name for a singer capable of such passionate and moving performances.
Teddy’s awards include an ARIA, two Helpmann Awards, a Limelight Award, a Green Room Award plus an MO Award.
This is Teddy’s second visit to Yass. We look forward with great anticipation to welcoming him back here.
Guy Noble is one of Australia’s most respected and sought-after conductors. He has conducted all the major Australian concert orchestras in repertoires from classical to musicals, to touring with Harry Connick Jr., Randy Newman, Oliva Newton-John and the Two Cellos, amongst many others. He has also conducted the Malaysian, Auckland, Bergen and Hong Kong Philharmonic orchestras.
Guy was a presenter with BBC Radio 3, ABC Classic and Radio National. He firmly believes that classical music does not have to be as serious as it is often presented. He has had his own column in Limelight Magazine for over 15 years and has also written and performed three musical theatre shows – Karaoke the Musical, Opera the Opera and The Grumpy Princess – a new musical for kids premiered in 2025. Other personal highlights include cooking on stage with Maggie Beer, singing the Ghostbusters theme with the Whitlams and the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, appearing in a Darth Vader suit with the Sydney Symphony, and singing the Cats Duet with the Korean coloratura soprano Sumi Jo at the Melbourne Recital Centre.
We would like to acknowledge the support of Bendigo Bank, Boorowa, for this concert
