About the artists

Justin Bullock, double bass Justin began his career in the Canberra Symphony Orchestra appearing regularly as Principal Bass. He also performed at the Canberra International Music Festival, various ABC Sunday Live performances and the Australian International Chopin Piano Competition along artists such as Pekka Kuusisto, Lara St John, the Danish String Quartet and Goldner String Quartet. Justin began performing in Brisbane with Camerata, Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra before successfully auditioning for the Queensland Symphony Orchestra at 23 years young! Since his appointment Justin is a regular guest Principal Bass with QSO and plays regularly in the QSO Chamber Players series. Recent engagements have seen him appear as a guest with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra as well as Ensemble Q and on many other stages across Australia and the world.

Joel Woods, mandolin Joel Woods is a multifaceted musician, excelling as a conductor, composer, performer and educator, skilled in playing various plucked string instruments such as guitar, banjo, and mandolin. Over a musical journey spanning more than two decades, Joel has collaborated with esteemed musicians, ensembles, and orchestras, showcasing a passion for diverse genres and crafting harmonious experiences for audiences. Whether exploring the intricate notes of the guitar, the unique tones of the banjo, or the melodic beauty of the mandolin, Joel’s approach is characterised by an authentic connection with listeners. His dedication to musical exploration and collaboration defines a career that transcends boundaries, offering audiences a rich tapestry of sounds in the world of plucked strings.
